Balance and Composure are back!

4 years after saying goodbye Balance and Composure are back with new music

Balance and Composure’s recent release of “Too Quick to Forgive” comes 6 years after their last EP release “Slow Heart” which was a few extra songs that were meant for the album “Light We Made” from the year before. Fans have been patiently awaiting to see if we would ever hear from the band again since members were doing their own things with Jon Simmons having his creative project Creeks.”Too Quick to Forgive” sounds exactly like the band is continuing as if they never left.

In an episode of “Your Morning Breakfast” podcast hosted by Jon Simmons and Matt Bailey, Erik engaged in a conversation about the impact of the pandemic. How the pandemic made them realize they were happy making music together. So, they started jamming together in October 2021, but it was hard because of COVID cases worsening and them not being able to be together as much. However, in 2022, they were finally able to get back together and continue making music. They’re not fully back yet, but they’re releasing new music and doing a few tours for their fans.

The first track off the EP “Savior Mode” seems to be exploring themes of departure, loss, and the difficulty of expressing emotions in a situation where there are high stakes involved. The artist talks about wanting to protect someone else but also feeling like they need to move on. They wonder if it’s wrong to want closure. Hence the lines “I’m in savior mode, so I’ll let you go” and “I find it selfish to pain you with wanting closure”. Thanks to its captivating guitar work they skillfully blend moody and vibey elements to great effect.

During a segment of “Your Morning Breakfast” podcast, Jon revealed that this song is about his father, who is suffering from ALS and has limited time left. The song expresses Jon’s longing for his father’s presence and his desire to convey his emotions to him for the first time. However, Jon also realizes that expressing these feelings may not be beneficial, as it may only cause further distress to his already suffering father.

The second track of the EP “Last to Know” appears to focus on a relationship where one person feels excluded and detached from their partner. They constantly feel like they are out of the loop and not privy to what’s going on in the relationship. The lyrics suggest that the partner has been unfaithful and has not been forthcoming about their actions. Lines such as “I could never keep up with these kids” and “Everybody knew so much of it” indicate that the partner’s infidelity was widely known among their social circle. The song conveys a strong sense of betrayal, pain, and frustration, as well as a longing for honesty and respect within the relationship. The song starts with a gentle pace and gradually evolves into a captivating bass melody, followed by an intensification of the beat with thunderous drums and trippy guitar riffs. Finally, the song fades away gradually as it comes to a close.

The EP as a whole encapsulates the sounds of “Light We Made” and “The Things We Think We’re Missing” into one making this 2 song EP a powerful comeback. On “Your Morning Breakfast” Jon and Erik talk about the EP saying the 2 songs are all they have at the time, but vaguely make it seem like it’s not. We’ll see in the future, but it seems like fans are eager to hear more.

The band will be doing some tour dates and tickets go on sale Friday 10am Local time. The tour only has 4 dates but on the same podcast they said there could be more dates.
